Counselling

People arrive in counselling at many different points in life. Sometimes things feel overwhelming or difficult to manage.

Counselling offers a space to understand what’s going on and begin to find a way forward.

How I think about counselling

Counselling is a collaborative process.

Counselling can mean different things to different people, and there is no single approach that works for everyone.

My work is collaborative. We begin by exploring your story — what has brought you here and what you might hope will be different. From there we can consider together what ways of working might be most helpful, drawing on a range of therapeutic ideas and approaches.

Counselling with me

Your experience and preferences shape the way we work together.

The first stage of counselling is about understanding your story and what has brought you here. Together we explore your experiences and begin to develop a shared understanding of what you might hope will change or become easier.

From there we can consider different ways of working. Some people prefer space simply to talk and be heard, while others find it helpful to work more actively with specific exercises or techniques. We can adapt the approach as we go.

Why people come to counselling

You don’t have to face things alone.

People come to counselling at many different points in life. Sometimes there is a clear difficulty that needs attention. At other times there is simply a sense that something isn’t quite right, or that things have become overwhelming.

Counselling offers a space to pause and explore what is happening in your life. By talking things through and reflecting together, it can become easier to understand what you’re experiencing and begin to find a way forward.

Getting started

Taking the first step can feel difficult.

If you’d like to explore counselling together, the first step is simply to get in touch. Our initial conversation is an opportunity to talk about what has brought you here, answer any questions you may have, and see whether working together feels like the right fit.

If you’d like to arrange an initial conversation or ask any questions, you’re welcome to get in touch in whichever way feels easiest.

I work with clients in person across Moray and the Highlands (including Inverness) as well as online.
